Sunday 17 September 1995: San Juan, PR

Val called 2 a.m. Joyce 5 each heard on news that Puerto Rico, along with Virgin Islands, had been declared a disaster area, Marilyn killing 100 in total or something. We – I, rather, since bedside phone rings in my ear (Wendy, with callous selfishness, suggested taking it off the hook) – easily able to reassure them.

Ben outside as I arrived Anchor, waited for Dicksie & Margaret wiout realising Sue Steve Jean already inside. I sat next to my aunt, Sue subdued torn shoulder but all good haddock fish n chips raspberry cheesecake only Dixie n I raised the Jack Daniels – gone uncle’s choice Sue said – in toast to Uncle Buck.

campamento nueva vida to start a cuadrangular… played badly, despite scoring one good goal. Came back with Patrick, who had to meet a courier, as soon as the match was over and the rest of my day was bound in shallows and miseries. Finished “Killing Time” by Thomas Berger, read some of the old “Times”
