Went to Cambridge tonight to see German play “die Physiker”. Fairly boring but I wouldn’t have missed it. Now I’m looking forward to sleep.

The generations march past. Cliff Dolan, Bernie & Robert’s da cycling home either got clipped by car or keeled off bike heart-struck, dead anyway only identified by scrap of paper in pocket. Joyce got call from Jim’s sister Betty to say their mum Betty died yesterday suffering a long while some emphysematic type of illness

Sunday 22 February 1981: Brockley

Cards in the morning, 2 drinks in separate pubs (Breakspear Arms and Brockley Jack) before dinner – massive and good. My people left about 3.30, Wendy about 6. I accompanied her to Euston and idled most of the evening on returning here.

I got a bloody mary somewhat girly one so I had to resmirnoff it afore sitting down to garlic & sun dried tomato focaccia, timbale of wild mushrooms, suckling pig (not great chunks of lechon but a dainty circle, I’m leaving out a lot of menu verbiage but it was all good stuff. Pear tart
